October 16: World Restart a Heart Day
šToday is dedicated to raising awareness and training in CPR ā cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Cardiac arrest can happen suddenly, to anyone, anywhere. In these critical moments, acting quickly and starting CPR until medical help arrives can make the difference between life and death.
š Learn the basic steps to save a life:
1ļøā£ Check responsiveness
Tap the shoulders and shout loudly: āAre you okay?ā
2ļøā£ Call 112
Ask for help immediately and inform them that there is a possible cardiac arrest.
3ļøā£ Check breathing (up to 10 seconds)
š Look for chest movement
š Listen for breathing sounds
ā Feel for air from the mouth/nose
4ļøā£ Start chest compressions
Place your hands in the center of the chest
š¢ Push hard and fast, 100ā120 times per minute
š¶ Think of the rhythm of Stayinā Alive
5ļøā£ Give 2 rescue breaths (if trained)
Tilt the head back, pinch the nose, seal with your mouth, and blow until you see the chest rise.
6ļøā£ Continue the 30:2 cycle
Repeat 30 compressions and 2 breaths until help arrives.
⨠Performing CPR while waiting for medical assistance can significantly increase the chances of survival after cardiac arrest.
