SURGICAL TREATMENT OF ARRHYTHMIAS
Atrial fibrillation is the most common form of arrhythmia, which is an abnormal heart rhythm that increases the risk of stroke, heart failure, and other heart-related complications. Atrial fibrillation is very common in valvular diseases, such as mitral valve disease.
The most effective surgical treatment for atrial fibrillation is maze procedure or ablation. This procedure, along with the closure of the left appendage as a source of blood clots, is frequently performed in conjunction with other heart surgeries.
