Milestone for Healthcare in Cyprus | Launch of the First Organized LVAD Program
The Cardiac Innovation Center is taking an important step forward in the care of patients with advanced heart failure with the development of the first organized LVAD program in Cyprus.
An LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device) is an advanced mechanical circulatory support device that helps the left ventricle pump blood effectively to the rest of the body when the heart can no longer adequately meet the body’s needs.
LVAD therapy is intended for selected patients with advanced heart failure and may be used either as a bridge to heart transplantation or as a long-term treatment option.
Living with an LVAD, however, requires much more than the device itself. It requires continuous specialized follow-up, appropriate management and timely access to experienced medical support.
Through the development of an organized LVAD program, the Cardiac Innovation Center is expanding the options available to patients with advanced heart failure in Cyprus, providing specialized follow-up and support that, until now, has been difficult for patients to access within the country.
The first organized LVAD program in Cyprus marks a new chapter in the care of these patients, providing access to specialized care here in Cyprus and through GeSY.
The program is now in the final stages of preparation, and we are awaiting the completion of the necessary procedures in order to proceed with the first LVAD implantation in Cyprus as soon as possible.
