One of the most important areas of development at the Cardiac Innovation Center is Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS).

As the largest Cardiac Surgery Center in Cyprus, we continuously invest in the implementation and development of modern surgical techniques, aiming to expand the treatment options available to our patients while maintaining high standards of safety and expertise.

To date, our team has performed more than 300 minimally invasive cardiac surgery procedures, covering a particularly broad range of heart conditions.

What does our Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery program include?

🔹 Procedures on all four heart valves – the aortic, mitral, tricuspid and pulmonary valves.

🔹 Minimally Invasive Coronary Artery Bypass (MIDCAB), which can be performed through a small incision in the chest without a full sternotomy.

🔹 Minimally invasive removal of cardiac tumors, such as myxomas.🔹 Procedures for congenital heart disease, including Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), Sinus Venosus Defect with Partial Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Connection (PAPVC), as well as other selected congenital heart defects.

What does Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery actually mean?

In conventional cardiac surgery, many procedures are performed through a sternotomy. With minimally invasive techniques, in appropriately selected patients, surgery can be performed through significantly smaller incisions.

This approach may offer several benefits, including less surgical trauma, reduced postoperative pain, earlier mobilisation and recovery, and an improved cosmetic result.

Each patient is assessed individually, and the surgical approach is selected according to the cardiac condition, anatomy and overall clinical picture, with safety and the best possible surgical outcome remaining the priority.

With more than 300 procedures performed to date, we continue to develop our Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery program and expand the range of heart conditions that can be treated using these approaches.
