We begin the month dynamically, successfully completing yet another pediatric cardiac surgery mission!
This week, complex procedures were performed on young patients as small as just 2 months old, including repair of Tetralogy of Fallot, correction of a vascular ring, and closure of atrial septal defects (ASD).
✨ A major first for Cyprus: the treatment of a 1-month-old newborn with severe aortic stenosis, who underwent balloon aortic valvuloplasty. This is a procedure in which a special balloon is advanced to the narrowed valve and inflated, restoring normal blood flow from the left ventricle to the aorta. The procedure was successfully performed by Dr. Aphrodite Tzifa, Interventional Pediatric Cardiologist, in collaboration with Dr. Dimosthenis Avramidis, Pediatric Cardiologist and Pediatric Electrophysiologist, with cardiac surgical coverage by the Cardiac Innovation Center team, in the catheterization laboratory of Apollonio Private Hospital (Head of the Cardiology Department: Dr. Georgios Georgiou, Head Nurse: Poly Fylaktou), highlighting our team’s expertise and expanding its clinical capabilities.
💙 All our little heroes are recovering well and will soon return home to their families, healthy and strong.
This month is an opportunity to raise awareness and enhance education about congenital heart defects, reminding us how essential early diagnosis and continuous care truly are. These missions are a tangible expression of our team’s commitment to this goal: a better tomorrow for every patient with congenital heart disease.
At the Cardiac Innovation Center, caring for every child is our mission — and Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Month (CHD Awareness Month) reminds us how important it is to stand beside every child and every family in need of support.
