A proud alumnus of the National Kapodistrian University of Athens, Dr. Tzanavaros embarked on a medical odyssey after completing his military service. His pursuit of knowledge led him to the Heart Center Cottbus, an academic hospital of the German Heart Centre in Berlin (DHZB).
Dr. Tzanavaros completed his specialization in cardiac surgery in 2007, showcasing his dedication to mastering the intricacies of the field. His expertise extended to the surgical treatment of arrhythmias, marked by the successful completion of his doctoral dissertation in the same year.
The global stage beckoned, and Dr. Tzanavaros became a consultant of Cardiac Surgery in Stuttgart in 2010. His journey took a significant turn in 2012 when he became a certified congenital heart surgeon and pediatric cardiac surgeon. His impact rippled across borders, from being the deputy director of congenital heart surgery in Hannover to the director of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery and congenital heart surgery in Stuttgart in 2016.
With over 4,000 heart surgeries under his belt — including more than 1,000 in children — Dr. Tzanavaros's expertise spans the entire spectrum of cardiac surgery. From delicate procedures on premature infants weighing just 400 grams to surgeries on the elderly, his compassionate touch knows no bounds. For the past 4 years, pediatric cardiac surgery has been an established and integral part of the Cardiac Innovation Center, giving children and families in Cyprus access to specialized care close to home.
Dr. Tzanavaros stands as a true innovator in cardiac care in Cyprus. His groundbreaking advancements include pioneering comprehensive treatment for both adults and children with congenital heart defects. Additionally, his revolutionary techniques in minimally invasive surgeries have not only redefined traditional approaches but have also prioritized patient comfort and ensured faster recovery.
